Assessment of metal concentrations from recreational rivers in a tropical region (Jengka, Malaysia)

Abstract A recreational river may be exposed to some extent of metal pollution. Two rivers, namely Sungai Weh and Jempul, were selected for this study, as both areas offer activities residents in Jengka, Pahang, Malaysia. This study examines the concentration metals (Fe, Mn, Pb), elucidates possible sources, evaluates toxicity loads, estimates potential health risk. Metal concentrations analysed using inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES). The found sequence Fe > Pb Mn. Hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) suggested that metals’ origins included anthropogenic natural sources. About 16.66% should removed from water ensure safety, based on heavy load calculation (HMTL). Children are more vulnerable non-cancer cancer risks than adults. findings indicate comprehensive monitoring quality parameters thorough exposure assessment performed.
